Shannon has an extensive career in researching and writing grant applications for non-profit organizations and governments. She began her career working for the Advisory Council on Intergovernmental Relations, a legislative committee for the Florida Legislature. She later conducted audits for her family’s CPA firm before deciding to become an entrepreneur and start her own business, New Directions, New Ideas, LLC focused on serving nonprofits and government agencies. Since 2005, she has secured over $8 million in grant funding for nonprofit organizations. Her firm conducts program evaluation services for the Florida Department of Education, the Florida Department of Health, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”). She currently leads a team evaluating a $55 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education for student support and academic achievement and a $4 million partnership grant to increase minority and underrepresented student enrollment in AP and advanced level courses. Recently she began working with three Colorado nonprofits, Veteran’s PATH, Nourish Meals on Wheels and the Danny Dietz Foundation, to honor Navy SEAL Daniel Dietz who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2005.
